about

Geordie is a traditional English folk song, that speaks of the inequalities between the richest and poorest in our society. It has been passed down the generations for hundreds of years. By mixing acoustic instrumentation with modern production, we aim to fuse the old with the new, and reimagine the song for the modern day.

Music created by Che Bradley and Rhiannon Kenny-McGrath.

lyrics

As I rode out on London Bridge on a misty morning early
It's there I spied a fair pretty maid, crying for the life of her Geordie
Crying for the life of her Geordie
Go saddle to me my milk white steed, saddle to me my pony
That I might ride to London town to beg for the life of my Geordie
To beg for the life of my Geordie

For he never stole ox he never stole ass, he never murdered any
He stole sixteen of the King's wild deer, all for to feed his family
All for to feed his family

As she rode out to London Court there were Lords and Ladies plenty
There on bended knee she fell and she begged for the life of her Geordie
Begged for the life of her Geordie
Crying six pretty babes have a had by him, another one lies in my body
But freely I'd part with each one of them, spare me the life of my Geordie
Give me the life of my Geordie

For he never stole ox he never stole ass, he never murdered any
He stole sixteen of the King's wild deer, all for to feed his family
All for to feed his family

Well the judge he looked down on her and he said for you I'm sorry
My fair pretty maid you've come too late oh he's been condemned already
He's been condemned already

But he never stole ox he never stole ass, he never murdered any
He stole six-teen of the King's wild deer, all for to feed his family
All for to feed his family
No he never stole ox he never stole ass, he never murdered any
He stole six-teen of the King's wild deer, for to feed his family
All for to feed his family
